Barcelona City Council is aiming to bolster the City Police corps to 3,500 officers in 2023, reaching the highest number in history and fulfilling one of the most notable agreements for this term of office.
Basic competitive training gets under way today for the 95B intake of the Barcelona City Police (GUB). New recruits will have to get through the training to then embark on twelve-month training placements with operational units with the corps before joining the force definitively.
The Basic Police Training course is organised by the Police School for Catalonia (EPC), belonging to the Institute for Public Security of Catalonia (ISPC), the body responsible for evaluating who passes the course and who will drop out of the recruitment process.
Th quota of 40% women (a pioneering measure at a state level) is in place again for this intake. Another new aspect, to embrace the plurality and diversity of Barcelona, was to include the knowledge of English, Chinese, Arabic or Urdu as scoring merits in the competitive entrance exams.
