Safety and prevention. The talk outlined the measures being carried out by the corps to prevent and combat unauthorised graffiti.

The police intendent Juan Guzmán gave a talk at the Museu Picasso on Tuesday, 14 May, entitled “The police approach to offences against historical heritage”, organised by the Asociación de Directivos de Seguridad Integral (ADSI).

Guzmán outlined the measures carried out by the corps to protect the city’s historical heritage against acts of vandalism, particularly prevention and enforcement measures relating to unauthorised graffiti, as well as other types of incidents they come across. The City Police actually launched an operation this week to step up enforcement relating to this kind of conduct, which degrades the urban environment.

Guaranteeing coexistence in public space and insisting on the cleanliness and maintenance of the city, on prevention, respectful behaviour and safety, is one of the main goals of the Pla Endreça. Reporting incidents and issuing fines, along with preventive surveillance, are the main ways of combating incidents. The volume of denouncements for graffiti increased by 47% in 2023.

In addition, a participatory process is being carried out to amend the current by-law on coexistence, which is the regulation designed to preserve public space as a place of coexistence and respectful behaviour. If you wish to take part you can sign up here.
