21/08/2023 - 13:25 h

Safety and prevention. The campaign will focus on traffic violations which pose a danger to the physical safety of pedestrians, which will be reported.

The aim of this City Police measure is to monitor the proper use and circulation of personal mobility vehicles (PMVs), cut the number of accidents, victims and the severity of injuries sustained. Drivers of other types of motor vehicles will be monitored for compliance with their obligations towards PMV drivers, as will pedestrians.

The campaign will be in place around the clock from 21 to 27 August, with greater attention to conduct posing a risk to circulation, as well as improper parking and driving distractions. The initiative will also focus on traffic violations endangering the physical safety of pedestrians, which will be reported.

Emphasis will be placed on infringements such as failure to respect red traffic lightspedestrian crossings with and without traffic lights, and the right of pedestrians to walk safely along pavements.

The citywide campaign will pay special attention to the seafront, to cycles with more than two wheels (with or without assisted pedalling) which provide an unlicensed passenger-transport service (C1-Rickshaws) for money. It will also entail administrative inspections at premises renting out these types of vehicles.

Regulations for using PMVs

  • The minimum age for riding a PMV or cycle with more than two wheels is 16 (drivers using a standard vehicle to carry a passenger must be of majority age).
  • PMV riders engaging in commercial activity are legally required to take out third-party insurance.
