Safety and prevention. From 7 am through to the end of election day, the City Police will be working to ensure 133 polling stations operate smoothly.

A special police operation will be in place on Sunday, 12 May, to ensure that the election day goes smoothly. In collaboration with the Mossos d’Esquadra police corps, the relevant documentation will be distributed to constitute voting points and police will be monitoring polling stations.

The City Police operation will mobilise 658 officers in all, some 128 more than the last time, for the general election of July 2023. The work of these officers actually begins on Saturday, as the corps will be responsible for collecting and transferring all the electoral documentation from the local electoral board (at the Ciutat de la Justícia), corresponding to the 299 polling stations in the city.

On voting day, from 7 am through to the end of the day, the City Police will be working to ensure 133 of these polling stations operate smoothly, with the Mossos d’Esquadra corps taking care of the rest. Besides permanent surveillance to ensure things go properly on the day, tasks include:

  • Delivering all the electoral documentation to those representing the administration at polling stations.
  • Notifying the legal constitution of voting points. There will be 1,688 of these in all.
  • Notifying the opening and closing of polling stations and any incidents that might hamper the constitution of voting points or the start of voting at the scheduled time.
  • Bringing together and transporting judicial officials anywhere required.
