Safety and prevention. The goal is to disseminate the municipal police resources providing support for the victims of gender violence.

Over the course of this week, the City Police are presenting, along with the Directorate for International Relations, the Victim Support Service (SAV) to 29 consulates in the city and other organisations. The SAV is a priority service, offering comprehensive specialist support for women who suffer violence from their partners, assisting with advice and formalising criminal proceedings.

The SAV works in coordination with municipal support services and the Mossos d’Esquadra police corps, with purpose-designed adapted premises offering friendly waiting rooms and exclusive assistance for women and their children, as follows:

  • Assistance with declarations from people seeking advice or wishing to formally denounce actions.
  • Drafting of statements, complementation of the rights of the victim and drafting of the police risk assessment questionnaire.
  • Comprehensive support in coordination with psychosocial services from the municipal network and the Mossos d’Esquadra police corps.
  • Friendly spaces with areas for children and support booths designed to help reduce stress and emotional anxiety, making it easier to give declarations.

This model of comprehensive support makes the City Police one of the most specialised police corps in primary support for victims.

The City Police has victim support services at all its police stations. Barcelona City Council offers all members of the public a wide range of free confidential services on prevention, support and the eradication of gender violence. These resources can all be found on this website.
