Coinciding with World NGO Day on Tuesday, 27 February, two members of the corps explained their volunteer experiences in a round table session at the Institute for Public Security of Catalonia (ISPC) in Mollet del Vallès.
Corporal Arantxa Bel shared her experience with the Fundació Banc dels Aliments, where she carried out management, coordination and communication tasks to facilitate food collections at City Police stations to then be delivered to neighbourhood organisations.
For his part, officer Sergio Galán explained his participation in a cooperation project in a village in Rwanda. Thanks to the Associació Rosa Dilmé, the project provided school materials, medicines and clothing, with volunteers also taking part in initiatives by local organisations.
In parallel, joint workshops were held in another space between the participating social organisations and students on the basic police training course at the centre, including aspiring City Police officers.
The solidarity event is part of the basic training course, which 105 aspiring City Police officers have been taking since the start of the year. The trainees will get 1,100 hours of training in all. Once they pass the course, they will graduate as new officers and start their practical experience with the different territorial units. After a year’s service they will be named as career public servants with the corps.
