Data protection is a fundamental right. This is why data subjects can decide who to give their data to and who not to give it to. In cases in which it is mandatory to provide it (such as when contracting a service or making an online purchase), remember that there is no need to provide all the information requested: you only need to provide the data that is strictly necessary for the transaction.
When you are asked to provide personal data, you must first be informed, expressly, precisely and unambiguously, of:
- the existence of a file, the purpose of the data collection and the identity of he recipients of the information;
- whether or not you are required to answer the questions you are being asked;
- the consequences of obtaining your data or of your refusal;
- the ability to exercise your rights of access, rectification, cancellation and objection;
- the data processor’s identity and address.
