Purchases from door-to-door salespersons
Purchases from door-to-door salespersons include all purchases made outside a commercial establishment, whether it is at a private home, at work, at a leisure venue, etc.
If you make a purchase outside the establishment, you must remember that:
- Visits from a salesperson to offer any products or services must be agreed to in advance by the consumer. In fact, the salesperson is required to prove such acceptance. This includes electricity or natural gas suppliers.
- There is no obligation to make a purchase. If you’re not sure, don’t sign any documents without first reading them carefully and understanding all their terms. And don’t provide any personal or bank details or subsequent invoices.
- It is important that you ask for the contract or invoice with full details of the selling company.
- You have a right of withdrawal under which you can return the product or cancel the contract within 14 days. Services whose provision has already started before this time, as well as tailored or perishable products, etc., are excluded from this right.
- The cost of returning a product may only be charged if the consumer was told about it before the purchase or chooses a more expensive delivery system than the standard one.
