The Espai Bombers is holding an open day throughout the day on Saturday, 23 December, with guided tours in the morning, while the Fire Service will be offering a simulated aerial rescue at the fire station in Poblenou.
Guided tours and open day at the Espai Bombers
The training, dissemination and exhibition space for the corps is increasing its usual activity with ten guided tours each lasting twenty minutes, between 11 am and 2 pm, enabling visitors to discover the history of the Barcelona Fire Service and the building, originally constructed for the Universal Expo of 1929. For little ones, there’s a chance to climb on board a firefighting truck with the help of some active members of the corps. The centre is also holding an open day from 11 am to 3 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm.
For guided tours and the open day during the morning hours, visitors need to book in advance by sending an email to espaibombers@bcn.cat or calling 93 256 54 34, indicating their name, visiting time and number of people, up to a maximum of twenty.
The following day, like every Sunday, there’s a family activity for people to discover the exhibition space through a gymkhana. Users have to find information that will enable them to fill in their Firefighter’s Notebook.
All these activities are part of the Christmas programme, which has over 300 representations, 80 formations, companies and cultural stakeholders, plus more than 200 artists all over the city. You can find the programme on the Christmas website.
Urban rescue demonstration at the MUHBA Oliva Artés
The Barcelona Fire Service carries out over 300 rescue operations every year to assist people in high locations and complex environments. The service has vehicles with ladders, rescue trucks and ambulances at each of the city’s fire stations for this purpose. All firefighters and medical staff have training, knowledge and experience in carrying out aerial rescues.
Various members of the corps will be offering a display outside the culture space at the Poblenou fire station at 12 noon on Saturday.
This activity is linked to the exhibition “Protecting Barcelona. Firefighters and fire prevention 1833-2022”, which explains how fire prevention measures have been applied in the city from when the Barcelona Fire Service was created through to the present day. The exhibition is on at the MUHBA Oliva Artés until 14 January.
