Barcelona has been chosen as the city that’s to host the start of La Vuelta Femenina 2025, the most important cycling event on the national calendar exclusively for women.

On Sunday 4 May, the Catalan capital will be the setting for the first stage of the race, an 8-kilometre team time trial. Starting and finishing at La Pedrera, the route will take in some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, and will include a circuit of the Palau de Pedralbes gardens. This opening stage will give the teams their first chance to show what they’re made of, and determine the first to lead the competition.

With this announcement, Barcelona cements its position as a benchmark in international cycling, reinforcing its commitment to the sport after hosting the start of the men’s La Vuelta in 2023, and the city has its sights set on the 2026 Tour de France.

A demanding route all the way to Asturias

Following on from the first stage in Barcelona there’ll be seven more stages, with La Vuelta Femenina 2025 reaching Asturias on 10 May. The race route takes in cities such as Molins de Rei, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barbastro, and Huesca before the mountain stages that will decide who will be the overall winner.

This event marks another step on the road towards raising the profile of women’s sport, and will contribute to the consolidation of La Vuelta Femenina as one of the most important events on the international cycling calendar.
