Gender violence in the digital sphere is a growing yet often invisible problem that can be difficult to detect. Digital environments foster anonymity and a lack of consequences, facilitating persistent, escalating attacks and increased vulnerability.

The numbers are clear: 39% of gender-based violence occurs in digital spaces, and in Barcelona, one in four teenage girls has experienced internet abuse, a percentage that rises to 31.8% among young women aged 18-year-old girls.

That’s why Barcelona is marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25N) by focusing on digital violence, with the aim of collectively reflecting on the need to build safe, violence-free, trust-based digital environments.

The project is part of a commitment to strengthening the response to digital gender violence, shedding light on this form of violence, preventing it and promoting the well-being and protection of young women in the digital sphere.
