Working for an anti-racist Barcelona
We understand racism as a broad concept which includes different ways of classing individuals or groups as inferior, and which is not explained simply in terms of a different skin colour or phenotype.
Racism manifests itself in everyday interaction and in the organisation of social structures and institutions. It’s not an issue from elsewhere, that only affects other countries: here we also have a past and a present that conditions the way we perceive and treat racialised people. Being aware of this reality and working for effective equality are fundamental elements for ensuring coexistence and democratic quality in our city.
Preventing and combating racism requires work at different levels:
- General prevention, with steps geared towards breaking down the prejudices which foster discrimination
- Specific prevention, to deactivate the most prevalent racist attitudes and behaviour
- Protection against rights violations
