The autumn planting campaign incorporates more than 80,000 new flower clusters across the city

Throughout the month of November, as part of the autumn planting campaign, Parks and Gardens planted more than 80,000 coloured flowers, covering a total surface area of roughly 5,500 m2, in all the districts of Barcelona.
This seasonal flower planting campaign takes place twice a year (May and November). This operation is coordinated between territory maintenance staff and the Tres Pins plants nursery.
In recent years, the city of Barcelona has demonstrated a commitment to increasing mixed vivacious planting. ‘Vivacious’ plants are those with a perennial root system, where the roots do not change and the aerial part of the plant is renewed every year. The planting system, meanwhile, is described as ‘mixed’ because it entails a mixture of different plant species. This increase is to the detriment of predominant flower clusters in historic parks, gardens and landmarks.
In general terms, the reason behind this increase in mixed vivacious planting is to move towards naturalisation. Unlike homogenous flower clusters, this is much more attractive for fauna and, therefore, facilitates biodiversity.
