Over thirty trees protected to ensure their conservation
27/05/2022 - 12:14 h
The Full Council approves additions to the catalogue of trees of local interest, adding eight individual trees and three sets of trees, one of twenty in the district of Sarrià – Sant Gervasi, one of two trees in Sants-Montjuïc and another pair in L’Eixample.
The thirty trees being added to the list of protected trees in the city include palm trees, fig trees, jacarandas and plane trees, plus one pine, one cypress tree, one pepper tree and a carob tree.
The inclusion of these trees in the catalogue ensures the conservation and maintenance conditions of the most valuable trees and shrubs in Barcelona’s streets and private gardens.
The process to list trees in the catalogue takes into account characteristics such as the species, morphological and aesthetic qualities, historical value, age and size.
The 32 trees added today come in addition to the 63 trees added in the 28 listings protected since 2019. The city currently has more than 1,350 protected trees, in 199 listings.
