Energy from municipal solar panels doubles in three years
10/12/2022 - 10:22 h
The commitment to the energy transition has helped double the energy potential of municipal solar panelling in three years, with the existing 157 installations now capable of generating 4,300 kWp. The backing for self-generation and self-consumption continues with projects that should see the energy generated by solar panels double again by 2025.
The goal is to reach 10,200 kWp in another three years, meeting the challenge set out in the climate emergency declaration.
Where are the 158 municipal solar panelling installations?
- 117 on the rooftops of municipal facilities.
- 16 on façades and party walls.
- 24 on pergolas in public space.
The drive for solar energy goes further, with projects such as the solar paving in Plaça de les Glòries or the solar panelling installed and planned for road tunnels.
Future projects will make the most of large spaces in the city and include solar panelling installations in new urban planning.
Ideas for a fairer, more democratic and renewable model
One new initiative for the future plans to offer part of the energy generated at municipal installations to homes in the city. The idea is to share 500 kWp with each household, allowing for a 25% saving on their energy bills.
In parallel, the project Moment Solar Barcelona offers advice to individuals and companies wishing to install solar panelling. The project has already handled over 2,000 enquiries.
