More public space in Gràcia’s squares as terraces get resized
13/12/2022 - 15:47 h
Public squares in the district of Gràcia are set to win back space for terraces as from 2023. The outdoor modules currently occupied by bar and restaurant terraces are to be resized from 1.5 x 2 metres to 1.5 x 1.5 metres, with the same number of tables and chairs, in line with the rest of the city. The change will mean more space is gained for other public and family uses in the district.
The reduction to the surface space of terraces in Gràcia’s squares is accompanied by the limit to opening hours at night for establishments in the vicinity selling alcohol. The measure is being applied to improve coexistence and respect local people’s hours of rest.
Various places around the district will be affected by the implementation of areas sensitive to high levels of noise at night. On one hand, commercial establishments offering food and drink in the squares of Vila de Gràcia, Diamant, Revolució, Virreina and Sol will have to close an hour earlier, remaining closed from 10 pm to 7 am. On the other hand, terraces in these same squares, with the exception of Pl. Virreina (to be added soon), must also adapt their opening hours:
- From April to October (inclusive), terraces must close at 11 pm on weekdays and midnight on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays.
- From November to March, closing times are also brought forward to midnight on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays.
