Work tendered for the new green avenue in Gran Via in Sant Martí

04/05/2023 - 15:41 h

Next year brings the start of the definitive revamp to the area of 70,000 square metres freed up from shifting traffic into the road tunnels beneath Pl. Glòries. The project includes a large tree-lined section 21 metres wide, rest areas and play areas, cycling paths and a two-way space for buses and trams. The idea is to promote community life and connect the local neighbourhoods.

The space was temporarily conditioned in the winter to give it community uses ahead of the definitive remodelling project, which will consist of:

  • A large central avenue 21 metres wide with rest areas, 200 benches and chairs, play areas, callisthenics areas and spaces with picnic tables, along with recreational furniture such as table-tennis tables, chess and children’s games.
  • Pavements between 5,25 and 7,35 metres wide on the side nearest the mountains, where residential buildings are located, with a single curbless lane for bicycles, local traffic and service vehicles.
  • Pavements 4 metres wide on the side nearest the sea, where the shopping centre is located, with a lane for local residents and bicycles in one space and a two-way space for buses and trams.

Greenery will be a central feature, with 450 trees planted to provide areas with shade and bushes.

The new pedestrian area in Gran Via will connect with the Parc Central de les Glòries.
