City Police volunteers collect 400 kg of waste in the 16th Barcelona Seabed Cleaning Exercise

The City Police sports club again organised the clean-up exercise around the groynes at the beach. The initiative promotes respect for our city’s natural environment.
A total of 30 volunteer divers from the City Police sports club, the Barcelona Fire Service and the Vanas Dive centre spent two mornings clearing the groynes of waste generated during the summer.
The activity cleaned surface rocks at the groynes, as well as underwater sections, where non-organic waste such as plastic, glass and cans accumulate.
The result was 400 kg of waste collected, with a large quantity of cans and glass and plastic packaging, particularly on the right side of the Espigó del Gas and the left side of the Espigó de la Mar Bella. Besides helping to maintain the environment, this exercise also makes it possible to identify points where anti-social behaviour occurs.
The City Police sports club has been organising this activity since 2008. The exercise involves a boat and a quad bike from the City Police Beach Unit, providing support for divers from the water and from the groynes.
