Three Kings Parade 2024: route, times and new features
03/01/2024 - 13:12 h
Our first contact with the Three Kings will be in the morning, when we will be able to greet them from the beach. In the afternoon, they’ll be arriving at Plaça del Portal de la Pau on board the schooner ‘Santa Eulàlia’ at 4.30 pm. Later on, they’ll be setting off on their parade at 6 pm, following the same route as last year and taking them along Av. Paral·lel and Rda. Sant Pau.
Greeting the Three Kings from the beach
This is the main new feature this year. A greeting is being prepared for the Three Kings between the Somorrostro and Barceloneta beaches, marking the fact that the city will be hosting the America’s Cup this year. Everybody is welcome to greet Their Majesties from the beach between 12 noon and 1 pm. There will also be royal messengers and pages on hand to collect children’s letters and wish lists for the Three Kings.
Arrival of Their Majesties
As ever, the Three Kings will be arriving on board the schooner Santa Eulàlia, reaching Plaça del Portal de la Pau at 4.30 pm. They will be welcomed there by the Mayor, Jaume Collboni, who will offer them bread and salt as a symbol of hospitality, along with another very important item: the key that opens the doors to all the homes in the city, so they can go inside and leave all their gifts.
Route
This is the same as last year, as work is still in progress in Via Laietana. Various spaces will be available all along the route for people with reduced mobility. You can also check the website to see where the parade is along the route.
What’s new with the Three Kings’ floats and their entourage
King Gaspar and King Balthasar will have new floats, inspired by the landscapes of their places of origin. The characters in the entourage will also have new costumes and standards.
The Page Estel will have a new costume and entourage too, with two new luminous articulated characters over three metres tall, making their way around the city to the sound of new melodies prepared by Barcelona composers.
The parade will be organised into two large sections, stretching more than a kilometre in all, with the Three Kings accompanied by over 1,200 helpers.
