Work on the transformation of La Rambla started a month ago in the section from Santa Madrona to Canaletes. In parallel, the work on the first section connecting with the sea has been completed, between Santa Madrona and the statue of Columbus. This part of the avenue shows what the new Rambla will be like: friendlier and greener, with more space for pedestrians.

In the section completed, the work covered an area of 23,000 square metres. The layout of Av. Drassanes has been changed, enabling La Rambla to be made longer with a new urban section reaching the seafront.

A new space with trees has been created which is more conducive to social uses and renews the point where the avenue, Les Drassanes and the Columbus monument converge. The new paving around this whole space is made of pieces with different formats of natural stone, specifically granite and porphyry.

The new spaces will have more greenery once the new vegetation is planted (in September, when temperatures drop). There will be a hundred trees, half of them new, with larger tree beds and bushes too.

Lighting has been unified here with one simple and functional design, with bollards added at the request of the Local Security Board.

In terms of circulation, there is just one lane on each side for use by bicycles and buses, urban goods distribution, service vehicles and access to car parking, with traffic limited to vehicles belonging to local residents.

The City Council has invested some 14 million euros in the first stage of reurbanising La Rambla, which started in October 2022. The project for the rest of La Rambla now continues and is due to be completed in 2027.
