Works to take place on three new stretches of La Rambla

02/08/2024 - 10:00 h

On 5 August, the works on La Rambla enter a new phase and will occupy three new stretches of the pavement and road on the Besòs/Gòtic side. The workers will make improvements in these new areas to transform La Rambla into a modern boulevard with more greenery and more spaces for local residents to sit and rest.

The works on La Rambla got under way in mid June on three 50-metre fenced-off areas on the pavement and road in the Gothic Quarter, specifically between Plaça de Catalunya and Carrer de Santa Anna and between Carrer de la Boqueria and Carrer de Colom. The works to date have progressed at such a pace that work is now starting on three new 50-metre stretches which are between Carrer de Canuda and Carrer Portaferrissa, between Passeig d’Amadeu Bagués and Carrer de la Boqueria, and between Carrer de Colom (Plaça Reial) and Passatge de Bacardí.

These new works will mean changes need to be made to the vehicle traffic routes that have been opened in the middle of La Rambla. A new route will now be opened by Carrer d’Escudellers, and two-way traffic will run along the roadways on Portaferrissa and in Plaça Reial, and the route along Cardenal Casañas will now change direction.

The new stretches covered by the works and changes to traffic routes can be seen on the attached plan.

The Espai Rambla deals with questions and queries

The Espai Rambla, situated on the ground floor of Palau de la Virreina (La Rambla, 99), will remain open this August, Monday to Friday from 10.15 am to 6.15 pm, to answer any questions and deal with any queries members of the public may have about the works on La Rambla. You can also visit the exhibition that tells the story of the most emblematic street in Barcelona.
