Park Güell has wrapped up its schools programme for the 2023-2024 school year which saw an increase in participation. A total of 60,800 children from 23 different countries discovered the architecture of the Park, thanks to the schools programme organised by BSM in collaboration with other organisations - 13,400 more than in the previous academic year.
The programme ‘El Park Güell i les escoles’ has proved the most popular activity. It’s aimed at schools at all levels throughout the European Union, and offers different options for visiting the Park, with free admission or with a guide. The project has introduced almost 60,000 pupils in European schools to the work of Gaudí.
Meanwhile, the initiative ‘Les escoles de Gràcia i el Park Güell’ aims to raise awareness of this impressive architectural heritage among local schools. It’s an activity organised by BSM in collaboration with the Gràcia Educational Resources Centre, the Gràcia District, and the Barcelona History Museum (MUHBA), which this year is expected to attract around 800 participants from 12 schools located in the area around the park.
School activities
As well as programmes to encourage visits, Park Güell organises a number of different activities aimed at school pupils during the academic year. The big new event for academic year 2023-2024 was the celebration of STEAM Park Güell, a project promoted by BSM and the UPC to promote scientific vocations among students, especially girls, which drew around 560 students to the Park.
On the calendar of activities aimed at schools for the current academic year are LEGO workshops, which encourage children to get creative inspired by Gaudí’s work, together with the ‘Vestim el Park Güell de Nadal’ [Let’s Decorate Park Güell for the Christmas Season!]and ‘Sant Jordi i el drac de Park Güell’ [St George and the Park Güell Dragon] workshops, which promote the involvement of pupils from the surrounding schools in the programming for the space.
