A step closer to the renewal of urban space around the station of Sant Andreu Comtal
15/03/2022 - 17:21 h
The revamp to the urban space around the station is one of the projects to be carried out in the spring, improving public space through an overall investment of nine million euros.
The goal of the work is to drive sustainable mobility, create more pedestrian space, improve connectivity and foster public transport, in line with the urban transformation being carried out all around the city.
An Amendment to the General Metropolitan Plan (MPGM) has been approved so that the new urban plan for the spatial distribution in the area around Sant Andreu Comtal can be created, integrating the station into the new linear park to be built above the rail infrastructure in La Sagrera. The new plan will generate 3,600 square metres of greenery and also allow local people and station users to get around easily on foot. The work to redevelop the area around Sant Andreu Comtal is due to get under way in May.
As regards the building, the civil engineering project for the new station is already under way and should see it enter service in the second half of 2022. The building will have 696 square metres of floor space and see 4,063 square metres of the surrounding area revamped. Access to the platforms, each between 7 and 10 metres wide, will be via two sets of stairs, two lifts and two escalators.
Another measure planned in the district of Sant Andreu is the urban redevelopment of the Colorantes-Renfe sector, which is to start in April. This project consists of raising the level of the terrain to match the level of the surrounding streets, thus improving connectivity with this zone.
Work starts in May to create a pedestrian connection for people to get to the rail triangle from C/ Josep Soldevila, with the existing walkway to be dismantled.
Finally, in the area of Sant Andreu Sud – La Sagrera Sud, a new bike lane of 1.7 kilometres will be built, connecting with the one just completed in C/ Berenger de Palou, between C/ Josep Estivill and C/ Ferran Turné. This bike lane will connect the neighbourhoods of Sant Andreu and La Sagrera with Sant Martí and the street grid of L’Eixample, thanks to the new bike lane in C/ Mallorca, also due this autumn.
