What will the future La Model be like? That question was answered a few weeks ago, when it was revealed that “Model, batega!” was the winning project in the competition for transforming the former prison. Now an exhibition at La Model features this project and the other projects presented to the competition.

According to the competition jury, “Model, batega!” [Model, beating!] is the option which best meets the huge challenge of transforming the prison into facilities and public housing in the Esquerra de l’Eixample, surrounded by a large urban park and green areas. This project, from the Forgas Arquitectes SLP / Planas Esquius Segatti SCP technical team, is the star of the exhibition that opens on 20 November, which also shows the projects of the other five teams of engineers and architects that reached the competition’s final stage: “Vincles” [Links], “Les portes obertes” [Open doors], “23,120 m2”, “Stoa” and “X’s”.

Visitors can see the exhibition at the La Model exhibition hall on Friday afternoons, all day on Saturdays and Sunday mornings. It also contains a detailed explanation of the prison’s transformation process since Barcelona City Council assumed responsibility for the facility. The exhibition is open until 20 December.
