Around 450 registered participants will attend the 3rd National Environmental Education Congress (CNEA), to be held between 25 and 27 January, where they will debate the key role of environmental education in moving towards eco-social justice and a sustainable society.
Nearly a thousand people will attend the 3rd National Environmental Education Congress (CNEA), which will be held at the Faculty of History and Geography of the University of Barcelona from 25 to 27 January, coinciding with the celebration of World Environmental Education Day on 26 January. The central theme of the meeting will be thekey role of environmental education in moving towards eco-social justice and a sustainable society.
The Congress brings together all the agents committed and involved in environmental education in the Catalan territory. In this edition, a record number of participants and papers were presented, with a total of 70 papers presented. Over the course of three days, participants, through various sessions, round tables and presentations, will focus on environmental education as a key tool for building communities that are better able to move towards eco-social justice. The aim is to consolidate environmental education as an essential lever for tackling current ecosocial challenges.
The challenge is shared, it is big and it is demanding. Reversing the historical inertia of our society is not easy, but during the Congress a group of people of different ages and professional backgrounds will take up the challenge of environmental education as a key tool for building communities that are better able to move towards eco-social justice.
Awareness, knowledge, values, habits and political will to reverse these inertia is what we need if we are to continue to enjoy the forest, rivers, beaches and biodiversity of our environment, both in urban and rural areas. If there is one place where all these wills can coincide, it is at the 3rd National Environmental Education Congress.
Organising bodies
The Environmental Education Congress is organised by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona Provincial Council, Barcelona City Council, the Barcelona Metropolitan Area and the Catalan Society for Environmental Education, along with the University of Barcelona, the University of Vic, the Ramon Llull University – Blanquerna, the Network of Cities and Towns for Sustainability and the Network of Schools for Sustainability in Catalonia. The Congress is the confirmation of the indispensable sum of political will and civic commitment needed to place environmental education at the heart of the solutions for a more sustainable and just future for all.
