Barcelona reinforces its commitment to sustainability and urban resilience
04/07/2024 - 13:15 h
Barcelona City Council has once again shown its firm commitment to sustainability and urban resilience by actively participating in two international events held in Valencia.
From 25 to 26 June, a delegation from Barcelona took part in the Cities Mission Conference 2024, organised by NetZeroCities. This event brings together representatives of the 112 cities involved in the European mission of 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030, with the goal of sharing knowledge and experiences to progress towards climate neutrality. Barcelona City Council’s Commissioner, Pau Solanilla, participated in the first NetZeroCities plenary session, where innovative strategies and solutions to achieve zero emissions faster were discussed. Good practices were also shared among the participating cities.
Barcelona was also represented at the European Urban Resilience Forum, held on 26 and 27 June. It is a key meeting for cities seeking to improve their capacity to respond to climate challenges. Ramon Canal Oliveras represented the City Council at the round table entitled “What kind of tools and practices do city and regional administrations need to make urban resilience a reality?”, organised as part of the LOCALISED project.
Barcelona’s participation in these events highlights the importance of collaborating and sharing knowledge at a European and international level in order to address the environmental and climate challenges under the Sustainable Development Goals. These forums are also crucial to establish alliances and through them develop research and development projects to improve how we generate energy, how we build, how we get around the city and how we protect ourselves from extreme heat.
