The Department for Animal Welfare and the Directorate for Beach Services are combining with the Catalan Guide Dog Association for the second year running to reserve the dog section of the Llevant beach for a few days in the summer so that guide dogs can enjoy a few hours there.
Barcelona City Council, through its Department for Animal Welfare and the Directorate for Beach Services, in collaboration with the Catalan Guide Dog Association, are setting aside the dog section at the Llevant beach for guide dogs to enjoy.
Guide dogs provide essential support for their owners, and also need some time for recreation. To this end the agreement from last year has been maintained to reserve the Llevant dog beach from 8.30 am to 10.30 am on 20 July, 3 August and 7 September.
Dog area at the Llevant beach
This is a space for users with dogs and is open throughout the high season, every day from 10.30 am to 7.30 pm. It is located at the far end of the Llevant beach and offers 1,500 square metres of space, with a capacity for 120 dogs. The space was used by 12,560 animals in the 2023 season.
This section of the Llevant beach has various information staff tasked with explaining the rules for using it, handling enquiries from users and checking chips carried by animals (an essential requisite for using this facility). Manual cleaning services are also carried out in the morning and the afternoon at the beach, at the breakwater, the wooden walkways and the parking area. The beach is cleaned mechanically at night with a tractor, helping to aerate the sand.
You can check how busy the beach is in the summer months in real time on the beaches website from Barcelona City Council.
