Collserola: safer and better conserved

04/03/2023 - 10:59 h

Thirty measures are planned to improve and add vitality to the Barcelona side of the Collserola Natural Park between now and 2027. The measures include action on fire prevention, the renovation of historical water springs, improvements to signage and more.

Fire prevention and improved biodiversity

Some of the thirty measures have already been completed, including two fire prevention plans. Improvements have been made to fire prevention facilities, while the map delimiting the fire protection strips in the area has also been updated. This means that buildings in contact with woodlands have been located, cleaning tasks planned and the obligations of owners defined.

Every year, machinery is used to clean 160.7 hectares of woodlands around urban areas, along with a further 106 hectares every two years. The intention this year is to continue with controlled grazing to clear vegetation on the ground and to promote the work of local farmers.

Work has also been completed to condition the space around the Finestrelles viewing area, in Les Corts, to cut vehicle access to the Arrabassada viewing area and change the fencing at the Parc del Laberint d’Horta to stop wild board getting in.

Renovation of 18 springs
