Work gets under way to revamp the Municipal Sailing Centre at the Olympic Port

14/06/2023 - 14:43 h

Work got under way this month which will allow the centre to be completely revamped. The renovation is part of the broader project to transform the Olympic Port and comes in addition the work currently under way in preparation for the city hosting the America’s Cup.

The revamp will increase the range of services at the centre, bringing nautical activity closer to the public and applying criteria on efficiency, sustainability and accessibility. Besides improvements to the facility, a new multi-purpose hall will be built, designed as an open-plan space to adapt to the needs of users at the Municipal Sailing Centre.

The project also includes the repair of different pathologies which have appeared over the years (carbonatation of concrete and water filtration at skylights and dilation joints in the building), as well as a complete overhaul of the changing rooms, the hangar and the gym.

Thirty years offering nautical activity for the city

The centre started life in 1992 as one of the sports facilities built for the Olympic Games. Since 2012 it has grown as a nautical centre and added new activities such as paddle surf, kayaking and diving.

The centre caters for all types of users, from individuals to companies, organisations and schools. The centre currently has around 18,000 users, and over 100,000 school children have taken part in sailing activities at the school managed by the Catalan Sailing Federation.
