The bus depot operated by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) at Triangle Ferroviari in the Sant Andreu district will be the first all-electric facility of its kind in Barcelona. The depot has been gradually updated since 2020 to accommodate the increasing number of electric buses in TMB’s fleet. This work is expected to be completed by 2026, at which point all of the facility’s vehicle parking spaces will be equipped with charging stations.

Triangle Ferroviari, located in the district of Sant Andreu, is one of TMB’s four operational bus centres. In addition to the depot, the building houses the Bus Control Centre, which manages the daily operation of the 900 TMB buses that circulate in Barcelona.

Phases 3 and 4 of the electrification process have just been completed, with 50 charging stations now in operation. This milestone comes at the same time as TMB’s launch in August of the tender for phase 5 – the final phase – which will involve the installation of a further 63 electric chargers, bringing the total to 176 once the facility is completed in 2026.

TMB is investing €25 million in this new phase, adding to the €12 million already invested in the operations centre.

One hundred new zero-emission vehicles

Throughout the year, TMB will add 100 zero-emission vehicles to its fleet, ending the year with a total of 242 non-polluting vehicles (196 electric and 46 hydrogen), representing 25% of the standard fleet.

In July TMB also launched a new contract for the purchase of five minibuses and 18 double-decker buses, all electric. These vehicles will be added to the fleet in 2025 and will serve the Barcelona Bus Turístic tourist routes and the Bus de Barri neighbourhood routes.
