La Model opens its doors once again

28/08/2023 - 09:30 h

The City Council will once again be offering open days to visit the imposing La Model building, after the usual August break. The first three days of September will see the launch of the new season, when everyone will be able visit the former prison in the Esquerra de l’Eixample district free of charge (without a guide).

From this September on, open days at La Model will be back, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with the exception of bank holidays. No advance booking or registration is required. All you need to do is turn up at La Model (C. Entença, 155) at the following times:

  • Fridays: from 4 to 6 pm
  • Saturdays: from 10 am to 2 pm and 4 to 6 pm
  • Sundays: from 10 am to 2 pm

Remember that 24 September and 8 December are public holidays in Barcelona, which means that entrance will not be free of charge on those days.

Guided visits are also available

Open days at La Model on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays allow you to visit the main spaces within the former prison without a guide. However, if you’d prefer to have a guide who’ll be able to explain about the history of La Model, remember that the usual guided visits will also be available, and are also free of charge, but in this case you’ll need to book in advance via the La Model web page: www.lamodel.barcelona. These guided visits (in Catalan and Spanish) also take place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

What’s more, Barcelona city Council also offers a range of guided visits for school groups. Schools can also check the details and make bookings via the La Model website.

Please remember that smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited in La Model. Pets are not allowed in (with the exception of assistance dogs).
