Work in Ronda Sant Antoni gets under way
08/01/2024 - 09:50 h
The general remodelling project will generate new public use of the space, with more greenery and priority for pedestrians. Work began today, Monday, 8 January, and should take sixteen months.
The space between Villarroel and Floridablanca will become a new square with curbless paving, completely traffic-calmed and free of vehicles, linking with Pl. Pes de la Palla, where a new children’s play area will be created.
In terms of public transport, a descending bus-only lane is planned from Villarroel to Comte d’Urgell, with buses no longer passing in the other direction in Comte d’Urgell. The bus lane will be next to the loading and unloading lane, which will finally be located on the side nearest Ciutat Vella, as requested by local shops and businesses in the area.
As for bicycles, these will be able to circulate in the whole area but giving priority to pedestrians.
More greenery is also planned in this section. More drainage spaces will be added to facilitate the growth of existing trees, with another 46 new trees planted to bring the total number to 150.
Finally, the renovation project also includes the connection of the green street of Tamarit and the renewal of Plaça del Dubte.
The work will be carried out according to the project already approved and awarded, which favours public uses and increases green spaces. In all, the project covers a space of more than 1,000 square metres and comes in addition to the 15,262 square metres already calmed between Ronda Sant Antoni and C/ Tamarit.
