16/01/2025 - 16:47 h
The municipal government has put forward a budget proposal for 2025, once again the highest ever, at an overall figure of 3,854 million euros. The budget prioritises housing, the promotion of public transport, the fight against social inequalities and improvements in security. It also continues to roll out strategies for the diversification of the economy and action on the climate.
Seven priority areas
The budget for 2025 continues to focus on and tackle important matters for citizens, corresponding to seven current priority areas:
- Backing and promoting public transport, with a budgetary item of 256 million euros that includes the connection of the tram systems in Av. Diagonal and continuity of discounts for transport tickets.
- To tackle the challenge of housing, 200 million euros will be allocated (including the 60 million managed by the IMHAB) for the construction and expansion of the public housing stock with various formulas.
- Combatting inequalities also accounts for a record spending figure for social policies with over 900 million euros on social and educational policies, access to culture and sports.
- Clear backing for local policies, with spending of 363.6 million euros, including investment in neighbourhoods, whether on maintenance and cleaning or with the districts’ own budgets.
- Boost for the diversification of the city economy to make it stronger and more resilient. Funding here will help to promote commerce, SMEs, talent and reindustrialisation with more than 135.3 million euros.
- Security is another priority area with a sum of nearly 422 million euros.
- The strategy on climate action will see spending of more than 100 million euros.
