New L10 metro stations in Zona Franca to come into service in April
01/03/2021 - 16:57 h
The three L10 Sud stations along the elevated viaduct cut across the whole Zona Franca industrial estate along Carrer A and will come into operation in April. The three stations are: Port Comercial/La Factoria, Ecoparc and ZAL/Riu Vell.
Work on the L10 Sud metro stations of Port Comercial / La Factoria, Ecoparc and ZAL / Riu Vell is in the final stages and the stations could be operating by the end of April.
Work is due to be completed and the stations handed over to Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) on 22 March. Testing will be conducted along the new section from roughly that date onwards, with commercial service expected to start between Easter and the end of April.
The three new stations should be used by nearly a million passengers a year and between them represent an investment of 10.5 million euros. At the same time, the completion of the metro service in this part of the city provides a clear boost for commuter mobility, making it more sustainable and efficient, in line with the Barcelona Labour Mobility Pact.
The three future stations on the L10 Sud are located along the viaduct which runs above Carrer A. They feature solar panelling too, just as the Zona Franca station does. Along with the panels covering the ZAL workshops, the overall surface area equates to two hectares of solar panelling, which will provide renewable power for the metro system.
The announcement of the upcoming opening of the stations around the Zona Franca industrial estate came with today’s site visit by the Councillor for Mobility and Chair of the TMB, Rosa Alarcón, and the Catalan Minister for Territory, Damià Calvet, in a works visit accompanied by the media. Alarcón stressed the importance of the metro for the energy transition and the green economy, noting that the new stations will help workers from companies in the Zona Franca industrial estate get to and from their workplaces in a more sustainable way, on public transport.
The Motors station on the L10 Sud line is still to be built, although it is not expected to open until 2026. The project will be linked to the resumption of work on the L9 line, together with the construction of the stations in the central section.
