New noise pollution plan launched in Ciutat Vella
13/07/2024 - 09:45 h
The plan sets out six priority measures following an analysis of data gathered in the last year. The plan will have a monitoring commission which community representatives and the social and economic sector in the district can take part in.
The study noted the need for broader action in various spaces, most of them considered noise stressed areas (ZARE):
- Passeig del Born and environs
• Plaça Reial and environs
• Carrer de Joaquín Costa
• Rambla and C/Arc del Teatre
• Rambla del Raval
• Specific plans for Passeig de Lluís Companys – Arc de Triomf, C/ Riera Alta – C/ Carme
In parallel to these priority areas, already determined, the surrounding areas will be analysed to address sources of noise that can be improved.
Measures in the autumn
The first measures of the plan will be implemented in the final quarter of 2024, in the ZARE in El Born. This entails greater control of music premises to ensure they abide by permits, plus more emphasis on the training and awareness of staff and users.
Steps will be carried out gradually, in stages, paying particular attention to joint responsibility. If stages do not achieve the established goals, new measures will be applied that are increasingly more restrictive, set out over a progressive calendar through to the end of 2026.
Addressing other sources of noise
Besides the specific measures in six priority areas, the District Office for Ciuta Vella continues to work on various fronts to reduce noise from the main sources in the city.
In the case of traffic, anti-social behaviour, open-air events, public works streets and squares, the main means of addressing these will be through awareness campaigns, managing the balance between activities and local people’s right to rest, plus fines.
The plan includes the creation of a monitoring commission with residents and representatives from commercial and economic sectors, within the municipal action strategy in the Ciutat Vella Agreement.
