New environmental education and children’s leisure space at Can Miralletes, in Sant Martí
07/11/2023 - 15:28 h
Located in the Camp de l’Arpa neighbourhood, the 18th century building has been renovated to put it to new uses. Can Miralletes will also becomes a district space forming part of the Barcelona Network of Environmental Facilities.
The new facility includes a new space for children, families, schools and organisations, offering games and workshops relating to nature, the climate and sustainability, and also linked to the gardens surrounding the old country house, currently being renovated.
The revamp to the building, of 300 square metres, has enabled it to conserve and maintain its appearance, consolidate its structure and recondition and redistribute its inner spaces. The work is part of the strategy to protect and regenerate the city’s heritage.
The renovation of the gardens will update the furniture there, the parterres and the watering network, as well as part of the vegetation and the children’s play area.
The project came about through a participatory process where local people, schools and participating organisations considered it necessary to give the space a social use, prioritising children and families.
Winter opening hours (from roughly 1 November to 31 March) will be from Tuesday to Friday, from 10 am to 1 pm and 4.30 pm to 7 pm, and Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm. The morning opening hours also apply in the summer, with afternoon hours from 5 pm to 8 pm. The facility will be closed in August.
