13/06/2024 - 14:57 h
La Gran Pantalla, the Barcelona International Film Festival for Elderly People is back this summer to offer an intergenerational film festival at the Cinemes Girona and the Zumzeig. Full-length films and shorts will be screened from 2 to 7 July, with new visions about being or becoming senior citizens.
The goal of La Gran Pantalla is to break down stereotypes about elderly people and promote active ageing through reflection and debate inspired by film.
The festival reaches its sixth edition with a programme of 27 works, 9 of them full-length films and 18 of them shorts, along with round tables and masterclasses inviting discussion on community care, scientific advances and intergenerational meetings.
The festival will also present a career award to Josep Maria Pou, recognising one of the most outstanding figures in Spanish theatre, television and film.
The inaugural session in the cycle will be at the Cinemes Girona on Tuesday, 2 July, with a screening of the film Empieza el baile (2023), directed by Marina Seresesky.
Admission is free for all sessions, except for the screening of the Luís García Berlanga film La Escopeta Nacional (1978) at the Cinema Verdi on Thursday, 27 June, which will have a reduced admission price of 2,90 euros.
