Starting this weekend, Carrer Gran de Gràcia and the Creu Coberta - Carrer de Sants main road will once again become areas for walking, playing, shopping in local establishments in greater comfort, or simply enjoying streets without any traffic. Barcelona City Council's Open Streets initiative is starting up again on 4 and 5 of September, opening up streets to city residents by restricting traffic for several hours every Saturday and Sunday.

Obrim Carrers [Open Streets] was launched just before the start of the pandemic and has gradually been adapted to the needs of local residents. It is being brought back this weekend. Every Saturday and Sunday, these streets become priority areas for pedestrians, turning them into extensive spaces for walking and leisure.

One new feature this season is that the times have been changed, from 10 am to 9 pm. This change is in line with the initiative’s aim of adapting to the way city residents use these streets, as well as the needs of local shops.

Which streets are open to pedestrians?

• The Creu Coberta – Carrer de Sants main road (between Plaça d’Espanya and Carrer d’Arizala): every Saturday and Sunday, from 10 am to 9 pm.
• Gran de Gràcia (between Carrer de Nil Fabra and Plaça de Nicolás Salmerón): every Saturday and Sunday, from 10 am to 9 pm. The latter is also complemented by the District of Gràcia’s customary practice on Saturdays, restricting traffic on Travessera de Gràcia, between Gran de Gràcia and Torrent de l’Olla, also from 10 am to 9 pm.

It should be remembered that these traffic restrictions permit municipal services, emergency vehicles and vehicles used by people with reduced mobility to pass. Local residents are also permitted access to car parks in the area.
