Safety, cleaning and mobility all bolstered for La Mercè
22/09/2021 - 17:45 h
A special operation is being rolled out to ensure a proper balance in the city during the festivities for La Mercè. Measures will be applied to avoid build-ups of people at night, with support points set up to combat sexist violence and LGBTI-phobia, plus extra cleaning teams and more public transport.
La Mercè 2021 will keep controlled capacities in place and advanced bookings for admission to most activities.
The City Police will also be working with the Mossos d’Esquadra corps to coordinate additional measures such as:
- Perimetral closure of festival venues and spaces.
- Closure of entrances at nearby parks and gardens.
- Restrictions on vehicle access to parking areas nearby.
- Control of points selling alcoholic drinks.
- Restricted access to some metro stations.
Prevention and care in relation to sexist violence and LGBTI-phobia
Pairs of professionals will be out and about in the area around the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc and the seafront section of the Fòrum, where two support points will be set up and operate during the following times:
- Olympic Stadium: 23, 24 and 25 September, from 7 pm to 1 am, and 26 September, from 7 pm to 11 pm.
- Seafront platform: 23, 24 and 25 September, from 7 pm to 1 am.
Safe routes will also be set up for people to leave the festival areas.
More cleaning
The extra cleaning teams will mainly be operative at night in the districts with music stages. They include:
- Mobilisation of 70 additional vehicles with 165 workers, bringing the total number of operational staff to 693.
- Distribution of over 900 temporary litter bins.
More public transport services
Extra public transport services include:
- Non-stop metro and tram services from 23 to 26 September, plus FGC services on the nights of Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
- Extra service on the 150 bus route and the Nitbús vehicles operated by AMB.
