Barcelona’s emergency housing program provides keys to seven families
26/03/2024 - 13:54 h
This Tuesday, 26 March, Barcelona City Council, through the Barcelona Housing Consortium, has provided to seven families a flat from the emergency housing program. These flats are located in the districts of Ciutat Vella (3), Horta-Guinardó (1), Nou Barris (2) and Sants-Montjuïc (1).
The event han been celebrated at the offices of the Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation of Barcelona (IMHAB). Families and beneficiaries also received an orientation on coexistence and mediation from the City Council’s Prevention, Intervention, and Mediation Service for Public Housing (SPIMH).
Providing homes for those who are socially and economically vulnerable
In order to receive emergency housing, families must complete a number of preliminary steps, including scheduling an appointment at the Barcelona Housing Office and requesting a report from the Emergency Board. Upon receiving all files, an analysis is conducted to determine which homes are available.
Social Rental Fund homes are intended for:
- Residential exclusion households (such as those facing eviction due to rental debt, foreclosure, or settlement of mortgage debt).
- Households with minors, the elderly, or individuals in precarious conditions of hygiene, health, or safety.
If there are more requests for homes than there are available homes, the Board will allocate the housing as they are added to the Social Rental Fund until the next month’s Emergency Board meeting.
