Summer nursery schools to open in August for the first time
16/07/2021 - 17:11 h
The 2020-2021 school year at the city’s municipal nurseries has ended, but 87 centres started a summer programme today for babies and toddlers up to the age of three, with 1,409 subsidies offered to users.
A total of 3,029 infants have so far been enrolled for summer activities at municipal nursery schools. Children can be signed up for the activities offered at the thirteen participating schools up until the day before ethe August summer programme starts. Activities are open to all infants up to the age of three, whether they are regular users at the centres of not. So far, over 90% of enrolments at the nursery schools are for the second half of July.
Income thresholds have been changed this year so that more families are eligible for 90% of the subsidy, helping to avoid situations where household incomes are an obstacle to infants being able to enjoy the summer. In all, 1,409 subsidies have been awarded, 247 of them for 90% of the cost. A sum of 4.3 million euros has been invested, some 25% more than last year, to cover the demand in full.
This year’s summer holiday campaign offers recreational activities, sport, educational and cultural programmes, guaranteeing the Covid-19 health measures at all times. Activities include summer camps, routes, summer schools, sports schools, the Campus Olímpia sports programme, museum workshops, visual arts workshops, open playgrounds, activities for teenagers, family activities and more, as part of the campaigns “100×100 estiu” and “T’estiu molt”.
