Sagrera
The La Sagrera station and linear park project is not just an infrastructure project but a city-creation project too.
The criteria followed by this project include connecting the neighbourhoods of Sant Martí and Sant Andreu (historically separated by roads), creating a large green space, promoting diversity in terms of uses and economic activities in the area; revitalising social and urban spaces and promoting a new sustainability-based development model.
The La Sagrera project is the city’s most important and far-reaching urban transformation in any of the three areas of intervention, with the main inter-city modal-transport interchange, with the equivalent of a future resident population of up to 30,000 people and with 30,000 new jobs, not to mention the potential of the nearby industrial zone.
Aiming to involve local residents in this project, Barcelona City Council created a committee with the participation of the main local residents’ associations from the local neighbourhoods. The committee discussed and gathered proposals on the planning amendments promoted, the linear park project, the criteria for the urbanisation and public-space around the park and mobility in the project area, among other issues. This committee also monitored work on the high-speed (LAV) line in the direction of the French border and the work for covering the tracks.
The priority milestones include resuming the construction work on La Sagrera station (which is expected to go into service between 2024 and 2025); the building of Sant Andreu Comtal station (which is expected to be ready in 2022); the planning and prioritisation of the facilities of the neighbourhoods involved and the promotion of possible urban developments in the areas around the tracks, pending the completion of the track covering and linear park.
