Barcelona City Council commemorates 8 March, declared International Women’s Day by the UN, with the 8 March – Maria Aurèlia Capmany Award, which each year focuses on a specific theme to advance the defence and promotion of women’s rights. This year, the award aims to fund projects that combat women’s insecurity in Barcelona by promoting gender equality and improving women’s living conditions.
- The goals of the projects or initiatives may be the following:
- Drive positive action measures to further the eradication of factors perpetuating workplace insecurity, gender stereotypes and social, economic and employment barriers that limit opportunities.
- Combat socioeconomic inequalities and inequalities in time management by addressing, for example, the gender pay gap, women’s access to benefits and work leave, the redistribution of time, etc.
- Launch specific projects to promote the empowerment of women in vulnerable circumstances.
- Promote initiatives to mitigate the effects of insecurity impacting women’s lives and the resulting physical, psychological and emotional psychosocial risks.
- Promote training, guidance and self-organisation initiatives to address workplace insecurity for women.
- Recognise the value of women’s work in female-dominated sectors.
- They must be new projects or begin implementation from 1 January 2025 (under no circumstances can they be completed projects or continuations of projects submitted in previous editions of the award).
- They must be implemented from a gender and social justice perspective.
- They must centre an economy that incorporates an intersectional approach, women’s empowerment and their social and political participation.
- They must lead to specific initiatives with a practical application that will be carried out in the city of Barcelona, at the neighbourhood, district or citywide level.
- They must be written in inclusive and non-sexist language. The presentation of the project must include a commitment that, if the project receives the award, all images and language used will be inclusive and non-sexist.
The projects must meet the following requirements:
Projects may be submitted by natural persons, groups, associations, or other non-profit organisations from the city of Barcelona. Each participant may submit only one project. Natural persons submitting projects must be officially registered residents of Barcelona.
Natural persons submitting projects must be officially registered residents of Barcelona.
Organisations must have their headquarters or branch in Barcelona, and, in the case of informal groups not legally constituted and comprising only natural persons, the person acting as the group’s representative must be registered as a resident of Barcelona.
The 8 March Award has a single project category for an award worth 15,000 euros that will be granted by a panel of experts.
The panel’s award is given to only one project. The decision will be announced at an event to be held on a date close to 8 March through the https://ajuntament.barcelona.cat/dones/en/ website.
Projects must be submitted electronically through the City Council’s e-registry, on the procedures and grants portal of Barcelona City Council.
The standardised submission forms can be found on both the municipal website’s procedures portal and the Women’s website. They must be accompanied by the documentation specified in Clause Eight of this call for projects.
The submission period opens the day after the call for projects is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona (BOPB), and closes on 3 February.
