Introduction

Barcelona is a city that loves sport. Our objective is to promote a local sports policy where sport becomes a tool for education, health and training, for conveying positive values, inclusion and for encouraging and improving social cohesion with universal access to sports and physical activity. Welcome to this portal, where you will find sport for everyone.

  • The Barcelona Institute of Sport is an autonomous body created by Barcelona City Council for the purpose of innovatively and effectively managing physical activity and sport in the Catalan capital, taking into account its leading role in the city’s development and projection, as well as social cohesion in the city's neighbourhoods. Since then, this work has been coordinated and implemented in accordance with the following lines of action:

    •    Fostering access to a balanced offering of physical activity and sport for all groups of city residents, with the specific factors required by each one.
    •    Promoting physical activity and sport in Barcelona as a healthy lifestyle for all.
    •    Reinforcing the role of neighbourhood and city sports clubs and stakeholders as an essential factor in Barcelona's sports organisation.
    •    Providing the city with public sports facilities, and collaborating with other public and private institutions to consolidate a network of high-quality facilities.
    •    Managing municipal sports facilities in accordance with the various management models established in current regulations.
    •    Establishing cooperation strategies with all public and private structures and the city districts, in order to create and complement the city's offering of sports and physical activities.
    •    Consolidating events that already take place in the city, attracting new one-off events and creating new regular ones.
    •    Creating tourist attractions related to the world of sport.
    •    Consolidating marketing structures for activities linked to the world of sport which take place in the city.
    •    Fostering the use of public spaces for doing sport.
    •    Promoting plans relating to the economic development of sport.

  • The Barcelona Institute of Sports has statutes that were definitively approved by the Full Barcelona City Council in session on May 23, 2019.
