Strategic Plan for Sport

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

Barcelona City Council, through the Barcelona Sports Institute, aims to promote the city's sports policy in all areas, in order to cover all the needs and demands that sport creates in Barcelona.
This is the origin of the Strategic Plan for Sport, the instrument for defining the action strategy that will improve Barcelona's entire sports system for the future.
The plan was created through a process involving the participation of the various sectors, stakeholders and organisations that make up the world of sport in Barcelona.

HOW IS STRUCTURED?

Barcelona’s proposed 2012-2022 Strategic Plan for Sport was presented at the Full Barcelona City Council Meeting on 25 July 2012.

The Plan is divided into six master plans that include a total of 22 strategic projects, most of which will be launched in the Action Plan.

  • Two strategies for the participation of stakeholders have been used: in-person participation, divided into three plenary sessions (presentation of aspects and viewpoints, validating assets and deficits and exploration of future development, as well as presenting the 2021-2022 master plans and strategic projects), and virtual participation, through Facebook and Twitter.

  • The Strategic Plan for Sport is divided into the following phases:

    1-    Launch phase
    2-    Analysis and Exploration
    3-    Definition and formulation
4-    Drafting and approving the plan
    5-    Management and implementation.

  • The plan has determined a strategic commitment to achieving a vision of the 2022 sports system for each aspect.
In the first phase, and in order to analyse and then formulate proposals for the various areas of the complex sports ecosystem, it has been classified into six main aspects:

    Educational Sport
For sport to continue being a conduit and a learning process for children, so that it remains a habit throughout their lives.

    Sports and clubs
Promoting clubs as a major factor in the city's social life and as a driving force for competitive sport.

    Sport, city and well-being
Barcelona, a sports city with regard to both its venues and its people. A city that is always on the move.

    Barcelona's international projection
A city whose positioning is linked to sport, recognised all over the world, the scene of great sports events and home to sports professionals and companies.

    Social cohesion and sport
Barcelona, a city where cohesion and social harmony are achieved by using sport as a means for integration, socialising and promoting equality.

Sport, an economic driving force for the city
Sport in Barcelona as a stable and profitable economic sector, with the capacity to create wealth and to attract projects and an industry with an international projection.
