In all, 340 workers have gone to Valencia with the vehicles and materials needed by the City Police, the Fire Service, the CUESB and Urban Services. The City Council is keeping municipal resources available for the Valencian authorities and activating other forms of support such as financial aid.

The Valencian Autonomous Region’s Integrated Operational Coordination Centre (CECOPI) has stated that it can currently cover with its own resources the action to tackle the consequences of the flooding at the end of October. The City Council will continue to provide support for the Valencian municipalities affected by the storm, making the necessary technical resources available according to demand.

340 workers on the ground

The City Council activated all municipal services from the first moment to be able to work in the affected area in coordination with the corresponding authorities. In all, 340 workers have made the trip from Barcelona in various convoys since the start of the emergency.

The Barcelona Fire Service have been helping remove vehicles and other obstacles, assess and strengthen structures, rescue people in dangerous environments, pump out water, moves heavy loads and provide teams of divers with inflatable boats.

The operation by the CUESB consisted of three convoys, mobilising 36 workers on the ground to provide initial psychological support and offer social orientation, needs assessment and emotional support for relatives of the victims, plus group sessions for communities and those intervening in the emergency.

Staff and vehicles from municipal cleaning services and Parks and Gardens also made the trip, their work focusing on removing large objects and mud and helping with waste collection. For their part, the City Police provided policing services.

More support initiatives

Barcelona City Council has launched other initiatives, such as a line of financial support worth 300,000 euros, the collection of 77 tonnes of food and the funding raised by the concert to be held on 29 November at the Palau Sant Jordi.

How can you keep helping those affected by the storm

At present the most effective way is to donate money to the organisations working in the areas affected by the floods: Creu Roja, Càritas and Banc dels Aliments.
