The OMIC continues to provide its services to the public electronically and through the 010 phone service. Claims and enquiries will continue to be preferably dealt with online. For those inquiries or complaints that require face-to-face attention, you must make an appointment in advance on the municipal procedures portal ajuntament.barcelona.cat/cita/omic, by calling 010, or at the Municipal Procedures Kiosk.
Funeral services
Funeral services are services and activities provided from the moment of a person’s death until their burial or cremation. They are classified as essential services of general interest and provided in accordance with the principles of universality, accessibility, continuity and respect for users’ rights.
Funeral service providers licensed to carry out their activities in the municipality of Barcelona cannot refuse to provide their service to deceased persons whose location is in the same municipal term as the provider.
Funeral homes must provide the following services:
Mandatory services
- Provision of information and advice on the service.
- Purchase of a coffin suitable for the service, and urns.
- Carrying out the appropriate hygiene and sanitary practices on the body, placing it in the coffin and transporting it to the cemetery or crematorium.
- Carrying out administrative procedures, including obtaining the burial or cremation licence and the registration of the death in the civil registry.
Optional services
- Wake service (wake room).
- Ceremony service (chapel).
- Music service.
- Funeral procession vehicles.
- Flowers or other ornaments. – Obituaries and memorial cards.
Before confirming that you are hiring these services, you can ask for a quote in writing and ask any questions you think appropriate.
The wake room service has not been mandatory since 2010, and funeral homes cannot make this service subject to the provision of other services.
