The OMIC continues to provide its services to the public electronically and through the 010 phone service. Claims and enquiries will continue to be preferably dealt with online. For those inquiries or complaints that require face-to-face attention, you must make an appointment in advance on the municipal procedures portal ajuntament.barcelona.cat/cita/omic, by calling 010, or at the Municipal Procedures Kiosk.

Repairs of products and services at home

This includes both those services that can be carried out at the consumer’s own home and those that are initially carried out at the service provider's workshop and then require the object or product to be installed at the consumer’s home.

The following recommendations of the Catalan Consumer Agency are particularly worth highlighting:

  • As this is a sector with a high proportion of unqualified providers, you must make sure you choose legally established companies.
  • You must always ask for a written quote in advance and find out about all the prices (labour, travel, parts, etc.) before agreeing to the service.
  • You may be charged surcharges or supplements for night work (if the service is provided between 10 pm and 6 am) or for working on public holidays (Saturdays are generally excluded). These two surcharges or supplements are not cumulative: you can only be charged for one of them. On the other hand, you may not be charged surcharges or supplements for other reasons, such as immediate availability or urgency.
  • If unforeseen circumstances result in an increase in the quote, the company or professional must inform the consumer so they can decide whether they agree.
  • If the consumer decides not to accept the quote, the company or professional may charge for preparing it, provided that the consumer was previously informed of this.
  • The company or professional providing the service must always issue an invoice at the end of the service. If partial payments are made during the provision of the service, you must ask for detailed receipts for each amount. And, if the amount of the final invoice is lower than the quote, the service provider must immediately refund any excess amounts received.
