Water
Water is one of the basic supplies for human life. However, before signing up with a water company, you should find out the prices, compare them and bear in mind that you may be eligible for deductions on water rates if you are struggling to pay your bills. Before you sign anything, read the terms of the contract carefully, and always keep a copy.
Water prices are authorised by the Price Commission of Catalonia and published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat de Catalunya (DOGC). You should know that you will receive a bill every two months, and that this will match the meter reading. If no reading has been carried out, the company will estimate your consumption. In addition to the fee for the service and the price bands for the amount of water used, the bill also includes taxes, among others the water and sewer rates and VAT.
If you find any irregularities in the bill and wish to make a claim, you should contact the water company. If you are not happy with service you receive, you can contact the Municipal Consumer Information Office.
