Itinerary through Nou Barris. Verdum and La Prosperitat: work life and local-resident protests

This itinerary offers a route through the neighbourhoods of La Prosperitat and Verdum, aimed at reconstructing its most recent history based on information provided from documents conserved at the Arxiu Municipal del Districte de Nou Barris (Opens in a new window). The fonds, some municipal and others private, give us a close-up on the everyday events explaining the development of the two neighbourhoods and the role their local residents played.

These neighbourhoods in the north of the city were noted for the strong protest work championing their rights, not just as factory workers (at factories such as Harry Walker) but also regarding the urbanisation of the area which, over the decades, led to confrontation with the municipal government. The history of Nou Barris is an example of local residents reclaiming their rights to bring about a series of improvements reflected in the network of its streets.
